About this publication

In every issue of the publication, Resources and Energy Quarterly, there are three short reviews in addition to notes on key commodities, a macroeconomic overview along with useful data tables and charts. The reviews, typically between 2–3,000 words, cover a subject of interest and that is related to research that has been undertaken or is underway at BREE. The annual publication Resources, Energy and Tourism China Review alsofeatures review articles of interest on China and the Australian-Chinese economic and trade relationship.

As part of a service to its stakeholders, the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE) has put together the 14 articles published over the past year into one convenient and easy-to-read publication called BREE Reviews. This is the first issue of BREE Reviews. It will be released once a year at the annual Australian National Conference on Resources and Energy (ANCRE) with a hard-copy provided free of charge to delegates.

The articles are grouped into three categories: resources; energy; and other topics. In this inaugural issue, released September 2012, the reviews include valuable insights from the specifics of the coal, uranium and LNG sectors, syntheses of key BREE research on energy productivity and energy intensity, and key overviews on the unfolding euro crisis and China’s economic growth and transition.
