Strategic plan
The Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE) is a professionally independent economic and statistical research agency within the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism (RET). Its mandate is to provide high-quality data, forecasts and research on resources and energy for Australia from an economic perspective, and in a global context.

BREE's role |
To provide timely and relevant statistical support and develop a capability to provide the primary enabling data and statistics support function across RET. To be a hub for energy data on behalf of the Australian government. To meet international statistical reporting obligations to a high standard. |
Undertake high-quality analyses on energy and resources based on macroeconomic modelling/ assumptions that provide production, prices, and export volumes and values of Australia's energy and resources. To publish the results of this research in a timely manner. On-going input and assistance to RET's policy divisions to support current policy initiatives. Input into international fora relevant to BREE's purpose. |
Strategic identification of, and research into, emerging industry and policy issues in resources and energy. Undertake work for external clients that is consistent with BREE's Section 31 and external client principles. |
